“The era of holographic computing is here.

“When you change the way you see the world,

you can change the world you see.”

Microsoft has unveiled its latest product that uses hologram technology—the Hololens. The Hololens is a headset that augments virtual images and integrates them into reality. It has headphones built into the device which give the impression that the virtual images produce sounds, even if they are behind you.

The engineering, health, manufacturing, and the entertainment industries could certainly use this device in their various applications.

NASA has already collaborated with an application using Hololens. They will use the technology to control its Mars rovers this summer.

Hololens is slated to be released later this year. According to Alex Kipman, a technical fellow at Microsoft who worked on Hololens, the device will be released in the time frame of Windows 10.
